PEACE:脉冲星候选体提取评估算法——用于脉冲星巡天候选体后分析处理的软件包

摘要

现代射电脉冲星巡天产生大量候选体,其中大部分受到人为射电频率干扰或其他形式噪声的污染。通常需要目视检查大量候选体以确定它们是否为真实脉冲星,这一过程可能非常费力。本文介绍一种名为PEACE(脉冲星候选体提取评估算法)的算法,它提高了识别脉冲星信号的效率。该算法基于评分函数对候选体进行排序。与流行的基于机器学习的算法不同,它不需要先验训练数据集。该算法已应用于多个大规模射电脉冲星巡天的数据。利用阿雷西博远程指挥中心项目学生生成的人工排序结果,评估了PEACE的统计性能。结果发现,PEACE将学生识别的脉冲星中68%排在前0.17%的排序候选体内,95%排在前0.34%,100%排在前3.7%。这清楚表明PEACE将脉冲星识别率提高了约50到1000倍。迄今为止,PEACE直接负责发现了47颗新脉冲星,其中5颗是毫秒脉冲星,可能对基于脉冲星计时的引力波探测项目有用。
