我们利用NEXT-White TPC与一套专用装置,给出了气态氙中基于非激基的二次闪烁的证据。与第一性原理计算的详细比对使我们能将此闪烁机制归因于中性轫致辐射(NBrS)——一个曾被假定存在于氙中却长期被忽视的过程。对于低于1000 nm的光子发射,NBrS产额在约50 V cm bar的减压电场值下从约10 photon/e cm bar增加到500 V cm bar时的高于310 photon/e cm bar。在通常用以产生电致发光的1.5 kV cm bar以上,估计NBrS以约1 photon/e cm bar的强度存在,这比传统的基于激基的电致发光低约两个数量级。尽管比其激基对应物微弱,我们的计算表明NBrS会产生发光本底,在气相或液相中均可干扰区分和/或精确测量低初级闪烁信号(S1)的能力。我们特别显示,在“缓冲”与“否决”区域中即是如此,那里将电场保持低于电致发光(EL)阈值不足以熄灭二次闪烁。这些区域的电场应谨慎选择以避免不可容忍的NBrS发射水平。此外,我们表明这一新的光发射源为在未来用于中微子与暗物质物理的单相液氙TPC中获得用于甄别目的的S2信号开辟了一条可行路径,其估计产额可达20-50 photons/e cm。
