MATHUSLA:一种在 HL-LHC 探索寿命前沿的探测器提案

摘要

在 LHC 上观测到长寿命粒子将揭示超越标准模型的新物理,可解释我们理解宇宙时的诸多未决问题,并可能指向一个更完备的基本相互作用理论。此类长寿命粒子信号在根本上有其动机,并几乎出现在所有解决层级问题、暗物质、中微子质量与宇宙重子不对称性问题的理论构造中。本文档中我们描述一个大型探测器 MATHUSLA,位于 HL-LHC 某一 pppp 相互作用点上方地表,可观测寿命上限达大爆炸核合成极限 0.1 s 的长寿命粒子。我们还指出其大面积探测器使 MATHUSLA 能对宇宙线物理作出重要贡献。由于可能在我们对宇宙的概念性理解上取得重大突破,长寿命粒子搜寻应具有最高优先级。
