讨论了最早的高中生数学竞赛的历史。文章主体部分致力于19世纪俄罗斯帝国的数学和科学竞赛。更具体地说，我们讨论并分析了最近发现的1840-1842年在俄罗斯首都圣彼得堡组织的市级官方“奥林匹克”竞赛（涵盖数学、历史和语言等多个学科）的证据。同时还讨论了当时高中教育体系的教育和社会方面。
