MAGIC 望远镜对遥远 TeV 耀变体 PKS 1424+240 的多波段长期研究

摘要

我们展示了利用 MAGIC 望远镜对耀变体 PKS 1424+240 的甚高能 (VHE; E > 100 GeV) 伽马射线辐射的研究。本文的主要目的是对该耀变体进行多波段光谱表征和建模;最近发现其红移下限为 z > 0.6,使其成为最有希望的最遥远 VHE 源候选体,因而尤为引人关注。2009 年至 2011 年间,MAGIC 望远镜对该源进行了总计约 33.6 小时的 VHE 伽马射线观测。该源在 2009 年和 2010 年的 VHE 伽马射线观测中仅被边缘探测到,随后在 2011 年的一次光学爆发期间确认了探测结果。叠加样本的综合显著性约为 7.2 sigma。不同观测活动期间测得的微分光谱可用陡峭的幂律描述,其指数范围从 3.5 +/- 1.2 到 5.0 +/- 1.7。经河外背景光吸收修正后的 MAGIC 光谱,在系统误差范围内,与 Fermi-LAT 在 2009-2011 年间观测到的较低能量平均光谱平滑连接。吸收修正后的 MAGIC 光谱在高达 400 GeV 的范围内是平坦的,没有明显的下降趋势。多波段光变曲线显示射电和光学波段的流量增加,这可能表明它们源自喷流的同一区域。所构建的非同时性能量分布的两个峰值之间存在巨大间隔,如果应用单区同步自康普顿模型,则需要极高的多普勒因子。我们发现,如果该源位于 z~0.6 处,双组分同步自康普顿模型能很好地描述该源的能量分布。
