极地冰中长基线水平射频传输

摘要

我们报道了对水平基线 1–5 km 上接收到的冰内射频(RF)脉冲数据的分析,基于部署在南极深处达 1500 米的两组发射机的广播。首先,我们分析了使用两个位于冰面下 1400 米、并在 2011 年为 IceCube 实验钻取的钻孔中冻结的 RF 双锥发射机收集的数据。此外,2018 年 12 月,一个由三个高压(~1 kV)、快速(~(1-5 ns))信号发生器之一馈电的胖偶极天线被下放至为南极冰芯实验(SPICE)钻取的 1700 米深冰孔中,距地理南极约 3 km。来自发射机的信号被五个冰内多接收机 ARA 台站记录,接收机深度在 60–200 m 之间。我们确认了长于 1 km 的 RF 电场衰减长度,将观测到的信号到达时间分布与模型比对,并测量了 0.15% 水平的双折射不对称性。
