利用前向模型匹配滤波器改进与评估GPI系外行星巡天的行星灵敏度

摘要
我们提出了一种新的匹配滤波算法,用于在亮星近旁直接探测点源。首先利用Karhunen-Loève图像处理(KLIP)算法结合角微分成像与光谱微分成像(ADI和SDI)减去恒星点扩散函数(PSF)。通过在图像中每个位置计算PSF的前向模型,将KLIP引起的天体信号畸变纳入匹配滤波模板中。为优化算法性能,我们进行了大量的行星注入与恢复测试,并调整系外行星光谱模板和KLIP降维激进程度,以最大化恢复行星的信噪比(SNR)。结果表明,仅需两个光谱模板即可以最小的SNR损失恢复任何年轻的类木系外行星。我们还开发了一套完整流程,用于点源候选体的自动探测、受试者工作特征(ROC)的计算、基于假阳性的对比度曲线以及完备性等高线。我们以统一方式处理了来自双子座行星成像仪系外行星巡天(GPIES)的330多个数据集,并评估了GPI典型灵敏度随恒星和假想伴星光谱类型的变化关系。该工作首次实现了在巡天尺度上兼顾行星完备率和假阳性率的不同探测算法的比较。我们表明,在相同的假阳性率下,新的前向模型匹配滤波器相比采用高斯PSF模板的传统互相关技术能够探测到暗 的天体。
