地面伽马射线闪的伽马射线定位

摘要

地面伽马射线闪(TGFs)是源自地球大气层的高能光子和电子的极短爆发。我们在此介绍一项基于创新事件选择方法、在20 MeV以上伽马射线能量下进行的TGF定位研究。我们使用了AGILE卫星的硅径迹探测器数据,这些数据首次与AGILE微型量热仪探测到的TGFs相关联。我们探测到8个TGFs,其能量高于20 MeV的伽马射线光子由AGILE伽马射线成像仪定位,在50 MeV能量下的精度为5-10度。值得注意的是,所有与TGF相关的伽马射线均与距离星下点小于400公里的地面产生位置相符。考虑到我们的伽马射线在540公里高度到达AGILE卫星时散射或衰减有限,我们的测量提供了首次从太空对TGFs进行的精确直接定位。
