孤立富勒烯阴离子C60^{n-}（n介于1和6之间）的π电子是一个相当独特的有限电子系统，具有由分子内声子交换引起的吸引相互作用。这种相互作用可能压倒洪德规则，并导致能级排序，可解释为球上配对，类似于原子核中的配对。Jahn-Teller效应的弱耦合处理类似于核物理中用于单j壳层配对的seniority模型。奇偶效应可以在富勒烯离子溶液中寻找：本文讨论了最近的实验结果。
