具有光学开放场笼的液态氙时间投影室中的事件重建

摘要

nEXO是一项拟议中的吨量级无中微子双贝塔衰变(0νββ0\nu\beta\beta)实验,使用液态136Xe{}^{136}Xe(LXe)填充时间投影室(TPC)以读取电离与闪烁信号。在场笼与LXe容器之间有一层LXe(“表皮”LXe),该处不收集电离信号。由于场笼周围缺乏光学屏障,仅能探测到闪烁光子。在这项工作中,我们表明源自表皮LXe区域的光可用于将本底甄别能力较先前公布的估计提高5%。这一改进来自两方面。首先,通过识别在表皮LXe中发生能量沉积相互作用的光,去除了部分γ\gamma射线本底。其次,溶解在表皮LXe中的222Rn{}^{222}Rn本底可通过标记表皮LXe中214Bi214Po{}^{214}Bi-{}^{214}Po链中的α\alpha衰变被高效排除。
