摘要
ERIS 是一台将扩展并增强甚大望远镜(VLT)基本衍射极限成像与光谱能力的仪器。它将替换两台现已超期服役的仪器,将其功能合并于单一焦点,提供利用设施自适应光学系统的新波前传感模块,并大幅改进其性能。该仪器在若干方面将相对于 JWST 具有竞争力,并在银河系中心、系外行星和高红移星系研究中具备出色潜力。ERIS 于 2017 年完成最终设计评审,预计 2020 年上天观测。本文描述该仪器概念,概述其预期性能,并强调其最擅长的领域。
