摘要

EMU 是一项为新的澳大利亚平方千米阵列探路者(ASKAP)望远镜计划的广域射电连续谱巡天。EMU 的主要目标是在 1.3 GHz 频率上对整个南天进行深度(均方根噪声约 10 微央斯基/波束)射电连续谱巡天,向北延伸至 +30 度赤纬,分辨率为 10 角秒。EMU 预计将探测并编录约 7000 万个星系,包括红移 z~1 处的典型恒星形成星系、红移更高的强大星暴星系,以及直至可见宇宙边缘的活动星系核。它无疑将发现新的天体类别。本文定义了该巡天的科学目标和参数,并描述了为最大化 EMU 的科学回报所必需的技术发展。
