EDisCS——欧洲太空中心遥远星团调查——样本定义与光学测 photometry

我们 presented the ESO Distant Cluster Survey (EDisCS)，这是一项覆盖20个含有遥远星团的观测场域的调查，其红移范围从0.4到接近1.0。候选星团从Las Campanas遥远星团调查中挑选出的最亮天体中选取，其中一半估计红移为z_est~0.5，另一半为z_est~0.8。通过在VTl/FORS2的较深双色数据中识别红色序列来确认这些候选星团。对于已确认的候选对象，我们组装了使用VTl/FORS2的深三色光学测量 photometry、使用NTT/SOFI的深近红外测量（一个或两个波段）、使用VTl/FORS2的深光谱、使用ESO Wide Field Imager的宽场成像（两个或三个波段）以及对最遥远的10个星团使用HST/ACS马赛克图像。本文第一篇介绍了我们的样本及所获取的VTl光学测量数据。我们呈现了星团的图像、颜色-星 magnitudes 图以及丰度估计，同时给出了 brightest cluster members 的红移和位置。后续论文将介绍我们的红外测量、光谱、HST和宽场成像，以及大量进一步的分析和科学结果。我们的数据将在论文被接受后公开。
