摘要
我们概述了利用欧洲极大望远镜(E-ELT)对局域群外分辨恒星种群进行光谱研究的科学目标。特别地，我们展示了作为EAGLE A阶段设计研究一部分的科学模拟，该研究针对一种多积分场单元近红外光谱仪。EAGLE将利用E-ELT前所未有的主孔径，在大视场(38.5平方角分)内提供自适应光学校正的光谱，真正革新我们对局域体积内恒星种群的认识。
