PolarLight X射线偏振计中本底事件的甄别

摘要
PolarLight是一台星载X射线偏振计,通过在电离室中跟踪电子来测量X射线偏振。它是一台准直式仪器,因此整个探测器平面都受到本底影响。大多数本底事件由高能带电粒子诱发,并呈现出与感兴趣X射线不同的电离形态。通过比较源上与源外观测,我们发现两数据集在图像性质上呈现不同分布。获得了源分布与本底分布之间的边界,可用于本底甄别。该方法可去除PolarLight所测本底事件的逾70%。这接近可去除本底比例的理论上限,并印证了其有效性。对于蟹状星云的观测,甄别后本底污染从25%降至8%,表明PolarLight的偏振灵敏度约为0.2 Crab。本工作也为未来的X射线偏振望远镜提供了见解。
