摘要
在极大望远镜时代,当前一代8-10米设备 foreseeable 未来可能在地基紫外波长上保持竞争力。卡塞格林U波段高效光谱仪(CUBES)旨在近紫外(要求305-400 nm,目标300-420 nm)提供高效率(>40%)观测,光谱分辨力R>20,000(另含R~7,000的低分辨、受天空限制模式)。设计聚焦于最大化仪器 throughput(确保对U~18.5 mag天体在1小时观测中每高分辨单元信噪比SNR~20),它将为诸多天体物理领域提供新可能,可获取恒星光谱关键谱线:极多样的铁峰与重元素、较轻元素(尤其铍)及轻分子(CO、CN、OH),以及巴耳末线与巴耳末跳变(对年轻恒星天体尤为重要)。紫外范围在河外研究中亦关键:遥远星系的环星系介质、不同源类对宇宙紫外背景的贡献、在相对透明星系际介质 regime 下H2与原始氘的测量,以及爆发暂现源的后随观测。CUBES项目于2021年6月完成A阶段概念设计,现已进入详细设计与建造阶段。首次科学观测计划于2028年。
