用于未来 CMS 前向缪子系统升级的大面积三重 GEM 原型的建造与性能

摘要

目前,CERN LHC 上 CMS 探测器前向 RPC 缪子系统的一部分在高 η\eta 区域仍未安装探测器件。一项国际合作正在研究利用大面积三重 GEM 探测器覆盖缪子端帽 1.6 < |η\eta| < 2.4 区域的可能性。鉴于其良好的空间分辨率、高计数率能力和耐辐照性,这些微结构气体探测器是在 CMS 探测器未来升级中同时提升缪子径迹重建与触发能力的极具吸引力的选择。本文将介绍此项可行性研究的总体概况。将描述小型(10×\times10 cm2^2)和全尺寸梯形(1×\times0.5 m2^2)三重 GEM 原型的设计与建造。在探测器组装过程中,测试了不同的 GEM 膜拉伸技术。将展示小型和大型原型的 X 射线测量结果以及在 CERN SPS 进行的束流测试结果。此外,还将报告关于所提出的升级缪子系统的预期缪子重建与触发性能的初步模拟研究。
