CMS 探测器中三重复合 GEM 演示器在 $pp$ 碰撞中的性能

摘要

在对大型强子对撞机(LHC)进行 Phase-2 高亮度升级后,碰撞速率以及由此带来的本底速率将显著增加,特别是在高 η\eta 区域。为了改善缪子的跟踪和触发,紧凑缪子螺线管(CMS)合作组计划在 CMS 缪子端盖中安装三层气体电子倍增器(GEM)探测器。演示器 GEM 探测器于 2017 年安装在 CMS 中,以获得运行经验并对探测器性能进行初步研究。我们展示了 2018 年正常 CMS 和 LHC 运行期间在现场进行的三重复合 GEM 探测器性能研究结果。给出了团簇大小的分布、在质子—质子碰撞中重建高 pTp_T 缪子的效率,以及产生 GEM 探测器击中(hit)的环境本底速率的测量。
