GRB 121024A 光学余辉中的圆偏振

伽马射线暴(GRB)最可能由宇宙学距离处吸积黑洞产生的准直相对论性外流(喷流)提供动力。当外流与周围介质碰撞时,会产生明亮的余辉。在爆发后几分钟测量余辉偏振可直接探测喷流的磁场特性,而在爆发后数小时至数天测量则可探测喷流及周围介质的几何特性。在 GRB 120308A 中爆发后几分钟探测到的高光学偏振值表明,存在源自中心引擎(GRB 的能量源)的大尺度有序磁场。理论模型预测,在晚期,当原始抛射物中的能量迅速转移至周围介质并以激波形式向介质深处传播时,线性偏振度较低,而圆偏振可忽略不计。在此,我们报告了在 GRB 121024A 余辉中探测到的圆偏振光学光,测量时间为爆发后 0.15 天。我们表明,该圆偏振是余辉固有的,不太可能由尘埃散射或等离子体传播效应产生。一种可能的解释是 invoking 各向异性(而非常见假设的各向同性)电子俯仰角分布,我们建议需要新的模型来产生相对论性喷流中真实激波的复杂微观物理过程。
