最近一项研究基于BATSE 3B目录中暴辐射的分析，给出了伽玛射线暴源与Abell星团相关的边缘统计证据。利用来自第3次星际网络（IPN）的精确定位信息，我们重新分析了这种可能的相关性。我们发现，大多数位于相对较大的3B误差圆内的Abell星团并不位于IPN/BATSE误差区域的更小区域内。我们认为这强烈反对Abell星团与伽玛射线暴之间的相关性。
