在当前的行星形成理论中,质量如海王星般大的近距轨道行星围绕低质量恒星应当非常罕见。我们报告发现一颗海王星质量行星绕‘极冷’恒星 LHS 3154 运行,该恒星质量比太阳小九倍。该行星轨道周期为3.7天,其最小质量为13.2个地球质量,这使其拥有绕极冷恒星的短周期行星(<$100天)中已知最大的行星-恒星质量比。行星形成的核心吸积和引力不稳定理论都难以解释该系统。特别是在核心吸积情景中,原行星盘中的尘埃质量需要比通常在极冷恒星原行星盘观测中看到的高一个数量级。
