行星所经历的紫外辐射量和烧蚀程度强烈依赖于其宿主恒星的温度。在目前已知的数千颗系外行星中,仅有四颗巨行星被发现凌越炽热的 A 型恒星(温度为 7300-10,000K),且尚无已知凌越更热的 B 型恒星的行星。WASP-33 是一颗温度约为 7430K 的 A 型恒星,它拥有已知最热的凌越行星;该行星本身的温度堪比 M 型红矮星。该行星显示出巨大的昼夜温差,并且高度膨胀,这些特征与高辐照度有关。然而,即使在 WASP-33b 昼侧的温度下,其大气层可能仍类似于其他行星的分子主导型大气,且在其所经历的紫外辐射水平下,其大气层在恒星主序星寿命期间不太可能被显著烧蚀。在此,我们报告了对亮星 HD 195689 的观测结果,揭示了一颗近距离(轨道周期约 1.48 天)凌越巨行星 KELT-9b。宿主恒星温度约为 10,170K,处于 A 型和 B 型恒星的分界线上,我们测得 KELT-9b 的昼侧温度约为 4600K。这与 K4 型恒星的温度相当。K 型恒星中的分子完全解离,因此 KELT-9b 昼侧大气中的主要不透明度来源可能是原子金属。此外,KELT-9b 接收到的极端紫外辐射(波长小于 91.2 纳米)约为 WASP-33b 的 700 倍,导致预测的质量损失率范围可能在宿主恒星的主序星寿命期间使该行星的大部分包层被剥离。
