开普勒-11周围一个紧密排列的低质量、低密度行星系统

摘要

当一颗系外行星从其恒星前方经过(凌星)时,可根据星光减弱程度测量其半径,并根据凌星间隔时间测量其轨道周期。多颗行星凌星同一颗恒星能揭示更多信息:周期比决定稳定性和动力学,相互引力作用反映行星质量和轨道形状,而观测到的多行星凌星比例对行星系统的共面性具有启示意义。但已知拥有超过一颗凌星行星的恒星很少,且没有恒星拥有三颗以上。本文报告开普勒太空望远镜对一颗类似太阳的恒星的观测结果,揭示了六颗凌星行星,其中五颗的轨道周期在10至47天之间,第六颗周期更长。这五颗内行星是质量和大小均已被测量的最小行星之一,这些测量结果表明它们拥有大量轻气体包层。行星轨道的高度共面性和接近性意味着行星形成末期存在能量耗散。
