Yehuda Vardi 引入了网络层析成像（network tomography）一词，并率先提出和研究如何将统计逆方法应用于解决重要的网络问题（Vardi, 1996）。近期，在他最后的论文之一中，Vardi 提出了网络度量的概念，用于定义和测量网络链路之间、路径之间以及不同网络之间的距离（Vardi, 2004）。在本文中，我们将 Vardi 关于网络度量的通用方法应用于真实数据网络，使用了通过特殊数据网络工具获得的数据以及此处提出的测试程序。我们展示了这些度量如何帮助阐明网络上流量特征的有趣特性。我们还调整了这些度量，以便以流经网络某部分（如路由器或路由器对）的流量为条件，并进一步展示了这种方法如何帮助发现和解释有趣的网络特征。
