We comment on the recent claim for the experimental observation of neutrinoless double-beta decay. We discuss several limitations in the analysis provided in that paper and conclude that there is no basis for the presented claim.
As a coauthor of the article mentioned in the title, I discuss the criticism in the comment of Aalseth et al. Part of the criticism is justified.
Recently a paper entitled ``The Igex 76Ge Neutrinoless Double-Beta Decay Experiment: Prospects for Next Generation Experiments'' has been published in Phys. Rev. D 65 (2002) 092007. In view of the recently reported evidence for neutrinoless…
It is demonstrated that remarks and criticism in work [1] (arXiv:1005.2436 nucl-th) have resulted from inattentive reading of work [2] (Phys. Rev.C 81, 035501 (2010)) or just some misunderstanding and do not influence conclusions of work…
Indirect support for the evidence of neutrinoless double beta decay reported recently, is obtained by analysis of other Ge double beta experiments, which yield independent information on the background in the region of Q_(beta-beta). Some…
The present experimental status in the search for neutrinoless double beta decay is reviewed, with emphasis on the first indication for neutrinoless double beta decay found in the Heidelberg-Moscow experiment, giving first evidence for…
The present experimental status in the search for neutrinoless double beta decay is reviewed, with emphasis on the first indication for neutrinoless double beta decay found in the HEIDELBERG-MOSCOW experiment, giving first evidence for…
Neutrinoless double beta decay is a hypothetical nuclear transition whose observation would demonstrate that neutrinos are their own antiparticles and that lepton number is not conserved, with far-reaching implications for the origin of…
Neutrinoless double beta decay is a lepton number violating process whose observation would also establish that neutrinos are their own anti-particles. There are many experimental efforts with a variety of techniques. Some (EXO,…
Several new generation experiments searching for neutrinoless double beta decay (0vbb) have become operational over the last five years. This report summarizes the present status of the experimental search and discusses peculiarities,…
This paper presents a review of the search for neutrinoless double beta decay of $^{76}$Ge with emphasis on the recent results of the GERDA experiment. It includes an appraisal of fifty years of research on this topic as well as an outlook.
Neutrinoless double-beta decay is a forbidden, lepton-number-violating nuclear transition whose observation would have fundamental implications for neutrino physics, theories beyond the Standard Model and cosmology. In this review, we…
The data of the Heidelberg-Moscow double beta decay experiment for the measuring period August 1990 - May 2000 (54.9813 kg y or 723.44 molyears), published recently, are analyzed using the potential of the Bayesian method for low counting…
The occurrence of the neutrinoless decay 0n-bb mode has fundamental consequences: first total lepton number is not conserved, and second, the neutrino is a Majorana particle. Further the effective mass measured allows to put an absolute…
An earlier publication "The implication of the atomic effects in neutrinoless double beta (0$\nu\beta\beta$) decay" written by Mei and Wei has motivated us to compare the decay Q value ($Q_{\beta\beta}$) derived from the decay of the parent…
This White Paper, prepared for the Fundamental Symmetries, Neutrons, and Neutrinos Town Meeting related to the 2023 Nuclear Physics Long Range Plan, makes the case for double beta decay as a critical component of the future nuclear physics…
The simultaneous beta decay of two neutrons in a nucleus without the emission of neutrinos (called neutrinoless double beta decay) is a lepton number violating process which is not allowed in the Standard Model of particle physics. More…
The various mechanisms for neutrinoless double beta decay in gauge theories are reviewed and the present experimental data is used to set limits on physics scenarios beyond the standard model. The positive indications for nonzero neutrino…
Neutrinoless double beta decay is a lepton-number violating process predicted by many extensions of the standard model. It is actively searched for in several candidate isotopes within many experimental projects. The status of the…
Neutrinoless double beta decay violates lepton number by two units, a positive observation therefore necessarily implies physics beyond the standard model. Here, three possible contributions to neutrinoless double beta decay are briefly…
