GEMS中子星X射线偏振研究白皮书

摘要

我们考察了各类中子星X射线源的预期X射线偏振特性,例如吸积驱动脉冲星、自转驱动脉冲星、磁星和小质量X射线双星。我们总结了得出这些预期特性的模型计算。我们描述了如何将这些预期特性与从GEMS数据推断的观测特性进行比较,从而探究中子星双星中本质的动力学、电磁、等离子体和辐射过程,鉴别这些过程的不同模型,并约束模型参数。一个令人振奋的目标是在此背景下首次观测证实真空共振的存在,这是一种早在20世纪30年代就已被首次描述的基础量子电动力学现象。
