我们报告了对红移z=1.206的射电星系3C 324的地基和HST观测，这是射电-光学“alignment effect”（对齐效应）的典型例子。虽然红外图像显示一个简单、圆形的天体，类似于巨型椭圆星系，但HST图像揭示了一串紧� aligned 的紫外亮度较高的亚星系。就现有数据而言，我们考虑各种解释3C 324性质的情景，以及是否存在尘埃的证据，这些尘埃可能遮蔽中心活跃星系，并将其光线散射产生在剩余紫外波段中对齐的连续辐射。
