摘要
最近的研究表明，本地宇宙中存在高达300太阳质量的超大质量星（VMS）。由于这一发现可能代表对经典恒星上限质量150太阳质量的范式转变，因此评估目前缺失的VMS特定物理是及时的。为此，我们决定编写一本书，内容包括对VMS质量精度的讨论（Martins），以及VMS形成（Krumholz）、质量损失（Vink）、不稳定性（Owocki）、演化（Hirschi）和命运（理论——Woosley & Heger；观测——Smith）的物理。
