VERITAS 对 BL Lac 天体 TXS 0506+056 的观测

2017年9月22日,IceCube 中微子天文台报告探测到高能中微子事件 \icnu,其可能起源于天体物理过程。很快确定该中微子方向与伽马射线耀变体 \txs~(3FGL J0509.4+0541) 的位置一致,而 \emph{Fermi} 卫星测量显示该耀变体处于伽马射线发射增强状态。VERITAS 于2017年9月23日响应中微子警报开始对中子微源/耀变体区域进行观测,并持续至2018年2月6日。在 IceCube 警报后两周内,VERITAS 未观测到该耀变体有显著甚高能(VHE;E 100 GeV)发射,但在完整35小时数据集中,VERITAS 以5.8标准偏差()的显著性探测到 TXS 0506+056。在此期间,该源在110 GeV 能量阈值以上的平均光子通量为 ,即蟹状星云通量的1.6%,其谱指数较软,为 。
