ICARUS T600 液氩时间投影室地下运行:首批结果

摘要

基础物理学与宇宙学中仍存在诸多未解之谜,如暗物质的本质、物质-反物质不对称性以及粒子相互作用标准模型的有效性。解答这些问题需要新一代的大型粒子探测器,以探索亚原子和天体物理世界。ICARUS T600 是首个大质量(760 吨)的新型探测器实例,能够将昔日著名的“气泡室”的成像能力与大型电子探测器的卓越能量测量功能相结合。ICARUS T600 现于格兰萨索地下实验室运行,研究宇宙射线、中微子振荡和质子衰变。通过几个以前所未有的细节重建的中微子相互作用事例,展示了这一新型“望远镜”的物理潜力。同时报告了探测器的设计及早期运行情况。
