反质子束的横向不稳定性在 Recycler 环投入运行后不久即被观测到。安装横向阻尼器后，不稳定性阈值显著提高，但该不稳定性仍被发现限制了从 Recycler 提取至 Tevatron 注入束的反质子亮度。本文描述了在提取过程以及专门研究期间对不稳定性的观测结果。测得的不稳定性阈值相密度与刚性束模型的预测值在 2 倍因子内相符。此外，我们得出结论：由于纵向尾部被有效地排除在朗道阻尼之外，对于包含在窄而浅的势阱中的束团，其不稳定性阈值可显著降低。
