摘要
威斯康星 H-α 映射器（WHAM）已完成对 declination 超过 -30 度整个北天区的 H-α 巴尔恩α线调查。该调查提供了第一幅校准好的、具有速度分辨率的银河 H-α 发射图。以 1 度空间分辨率、12 km/s 速度分辨率和对 0.1 R（EM ~ 0.2 cm^{-6} pc）特征的灵敏度，本次调查目前为测量银河中电离物质提供了最深层的图图。除了探索温暖电离介质的详细运动学结构以及螺旋臂中电离物质的垂直结构外，初步结果包括发现了几条延伸不少于 1 度的微弱 H II 区，以及电离成分中间速度云的首幅图图。
