高红移椭圆星系的静止系紫外光谱

摘要
在红移~1.4 以上，利用光学光谱仪获取被动演化星系（PEG）红移的唯一光谱特征，是静止系中 2600-2850 埃处由一组铁线和镁线引起的特征结构。同一特征也可用于估算恒星形成停止以来经过的时间。本文简要回顾了目前在 VLT 和 SUBARU 望远镜上观测高红移 PEG 的努力。
