Arches 星团中心区域的当前质量函数

我们通过直接的 N 体模拟研究年轻且密集星团的质量函数演化。我们的主要目标是解释近期观察到的 Arches 星团中心区域相对平坦的质量函数。在该区域，超过约 5-6 太阳质量的恒星质量函数的幂律指数比 Salpeter 值大约高出一个数量级；而在更外侧，对于低质量恒星，质量函数类似 Salpeter 分布。我们表明，Arches 质量函数的异常现象在不涉及原始质量分离的情况下即可得到满意的解释。我们从模拟中得出两个结论：1) Arches 初始质量函数在约 1 太阳质量以下处与 Salpeter 斜率相符；2) 该星团正处于核心坍缩约半程状态。其他特征类似 Arches 的星团核心预期会显示出对高质量 (>5 太阳质量) 恒星质量函数的类似平坦化。
