下一代全球引力波天文台:科学之书

摘要
下一代地基引力波探测器将观测宇宙中黑洞与中子星的并合事件,其中数千个将以极高的保真度被观测到。《科学之书》是一项历时3年、研究下一代探测器网络科学能力工作的成果。此类网络将使得解决物理学与天文学众多领域中未解决的问题成为可能,从宇宙学到超出粒子物理标准模型,以及它们如何能深入强引力系统的运作、致密天体的天体物理学与致密物质的性质。如此深邃而精细的天文台必将做出其他观测窗口无法企及的新发现。除阐明下一代探测器的丰富科学潜力外,本报告还在物理学与天文学的五个不同领域给出了具体的科学目标以及实现这些科学目标所需的灵敏度要求。本报告是 GWIC 3G 小组委员会六部分系列报告中的第二篇:i) 将引力波天文台的探测范围扩展至宇宙边缘,ii) 下一代全球引力波天文台:科学之书(本报告),iii) 3G R&D:下一代地基引力波探测器的研发,iv) 引力波数据分析:3G 时代的计算挑战,v) 未来地基引力波天文台:与其他科学界的协同,vi) 未来全球引力波天文台网络可能的治理模式探索。
