摘要
MIGHTEE大型巡天项目将对四个研究最深入的河外深场进行巡天,总计20平方度,在GHz频率达到Jy灵敏度,并将对单个约1平方度的MeerKAT指向进行超深成像。观测将提供射电连续谱、谱线和偏振信息。因此,MIGHTEE连同这些深场中已有的优异多波段数据,将实现一系列科学研究。具体而言,MIGHTEE旨在显著增强我们对以下方面的理解:(i) 活动星系核(AGN)与恒星形成活动随宇宙时间的演化,作为恒星质量与环境的函数,且不受尘埃遮挡影响;(ii) 宇宙中中性氢的演化,以及该中性气体在经历分子相后最终如何变成恒星,及其为多高效地驱动AGN活动提供燃料;(iii) 宇宙磁场的性质及其在星系团、纤维状结构和星系中的演化。MIGHTEE将达到与计划中的SKA全天空巡天相似的深度,从而将为SKA在远大于此的巡天体积上开展的宇宙学实验提供先导。
