KM3NeT在下一次核坍缩超新星中微子观测中的潜力

摘要

KM3NeT研究基础设施正在地中海建设中。它由两台水切伦科夫中微子探测器ARCA和ORCA组成,分别面向中微子天体物理与振荡研究。通过以约6200个光学模块(共约200,000个光电倍增管)监测大片海水体积,KM3NeT将能借助观测光电倍增管中高于本底的相关击中,对来自银河系及近银河系核坍缩超新星的约10 MeV中微子达到灵敏。本文基于首台KM3NeT探测单元本底数据的详细分析与中微子信号的模拟,估算了KM3NeT对超新星爆发的灵敏度。KM3NeT的观测视界(对应5σ发现)基本覆盖银河系,且在最乐观模型下延伸至小麦哲伦云(约60 kpc)。对时间剖面信号的详细研究可评估KM3NeT的能力:对远至5–8 kpc的源以数毫秒精度确定中微子暴到达时间,并在核坍缩超新星爆发地比3–5 kpc更近时(取决于前身星质量)探测驻激波不稳定性特征。文中还给出了KM3NeT测量中微子通量能谱参数的能力。
