星暴后星系外流的隐藏质量与巨大空间延展

多相等离子体的外流风被认为能调节星系的组装,但这些外流的关键方面尚未得到观测探测。利用紫外吸收光谱学,我们表明星暴后星系风中温度为 10^{5.5} K 的“温热”等离子体所含质量是冷气体的 10-150 倍。该风延伸至 >68 千秒差距的距离,且至少有一部分将逃逸出去。此外,冷相与温热相的动力学相关性表明,温热等离子体与冷物质和更热(不可见)的 >>10^{6} K 相的相互作用有关。这种多相风可以移除大量质量并改变星暴后星系的演化。
