早期宇宙中一个富尘恒星形成星系的快速分子外流

摘要

星系生长效率低下,每个自由落体时间仅有百分之几的可用气体转化为恒星。若反馈过程(如由辐射压、超新星或超大质量黑洞吸积驱动的外流风)加热或驱离气体供应,则可中止恒星形成。我们报道了在红移5.3、即大爆炸后十亿年从一个富尘恒星形成星系出发的分子外流。该外流相对于星系速度可达800 km/s,被分解为多个团块,并以在恒星形成率两倍以内的速率携带质量。我们的结果表明,分子外流能从高红移星系中移除可用作恒星形成的气体的大部分。
