20 世纪 70 年代，Monash University 的微波波谱学小组成为世界上首个测定尿素、甘氨酸及其他几种生物分子光谱频率的团队。我们随即在 Parkes 利用现有的厘米波接收器以及新建造的、工作频率高达 75GHz（仅使用碟形天线的中心 17 米部分）的接收器对这些分子进行了搜寻。尽管这些搜寻大体上未获成功，但它们助推了如今蓬勃发展的天体生物学领域。
