Pleiades星系中首个L型棕矮星

摘要
我们对Pleiades开放星系中的三个微弱棕矮星候选对象进行低分辨率光学光谱观测。观测到的对象包括Roque 12 (I=18.5)、Roque 5 (I=19.7)和Roque 25 (I=21.2)。Roque 25的光谱未显示M型恒星光谱所特有的强烈TiO带，而CaH、CrH和VO的分子带则清晰可见。我们将Roque 25分类为早期L型棕矮星。利用当前理论进化轨迹，我们估计在Pleiades（年龄~120 Myr）中，M型向L型的过渡发生在Teff ~2200 K或M ~0.04 Msol处。Roque 25作为Pleiades中首个属于L型类的棕矮星，成为一个基准棕矮星。它提供了证据表明 IMF向下延伸至约0.035 Msol，为寻找更轻的年轻棕矮星提供了指南。
