摘要
伽马射线暴监测器(GBM)将显著增强费米天文台在伽马射线暴(GRB)研究中的科学回报。GBM的主要目标是将暴发观测的能量范围从费米上的大面积望远镜(LAT)的能量范围向下扩展到存在大量先前数据的硬X射线范围。次要目标是计算暴发位置,以便重新定向航天器,使LAT能够观测到明亮暴发的延迟发射。GBM使用由12个碘化钠闪烁体和2个锗酸铋闪烁体组成的阵列,在未被遮挡的全天范围内探测约8 keV至约40 MeV的伽马射线。星上触发阈值约为0.7光子/平方厘米/秒(50-300 keV,1秒峰值)。GBM每年产生约250次GRB的星上触发。
