(删节版)Maunakea光谱探测器(MSE)是一个用于光谱巡天设计、执行与科学发掘的端到端科学平台。它将揭示暗弱宇宙的组成与动力学,并影响从单个恒星到宇宙中最大尺度结构的几乎所有天体物理学领域。MSE科学计划的主要支柱包括:(i)作为终极Gaia后续设施,以高光谱分辨率理解遥远银河系的化学与动力学,包括外盘与暗弱恒星晕;(ii)通过曾在近邻宇宙开展过的革命性巡天类型,在宇宙正午时期研究星系形成与演化,但现于宇宙恒星形成历史峰值处进行;(iii)通过探测宇宙大体积且高星系密度的宇宙学红移巡天,推导中微子质量并洞察暴胀物理。MSE定位于成为新兴国际前沿天文设施网络中的关键枢纽,其科学能力自然补充并扩展了Gaia、大型综合巡天望远镜、平方公里阵列、Euclid、WFIRST、30米望远镜等诸多设施的科学力量。
