摘要

目前认为,中等质量的渐进巨星分支(AGB)星中的底热燃烧(HBB)会防止C星的形成。尽管如此,本文 presenting of一些详细演化计算显示,即使存在HBB,仍可在AGB上达到最高亮度时获得C星。这是由于质量损失导致外壳质量减轻,使HBB停止而坠积仍继续。高质量损失率在星体到达C/O>1之前产生类星体质的风,这与van Loon等人(1997a,b)的最新结果一致,他们发现在银河系云系中亮度可达M_{bol}=-6.8的遮蔽C星。
