摘要
我们讨论了物理学发展常常意味着时空需要获得日益丰富和复杂的结构。一般相对论是第一个显示我们将空间与时间与物理世界相连接的理论。此后，审视时空可能存在的各种方式，从本质上说，就是物理学的本质。物理学因此为诸多杰出数学家的开创性工作提供了实质——这些数学家们推测时空的几何与拓扑。
