摘要

我们首次观测到了“轨道截断杆”——由体相轨道序在晶体表面终止所产生的散射。对解理的单层钙钛矿La0.5Sr1.5MnO4进行的X射线测量表明，尽管晶体学表面是原子级光滑的，但轨道“表面”却粗糙得多，其与平均“表面”的均方根偏差约为0.7nm。该散射的温度依赖性显示了表面诱导二级相变的证据。
