高品质成像的强大功能以及每个 VLT 望远镜的大口径，令人惊叹，显然有许多激动人心的发现正等待被发现。对已解析星际物质分布的研究将从速地天文台之前的这种情况中受益良多。我们现在将能够探测更广泛的星系形成环境，特别是局部矮星系中极低金属化学组成的区域。对近邻宇宙中单个星体和星系形成区域的研究是我们唯一能够理解高红移星系群观测的途径。我们 presented 1999 年 1 月在 FORS1 科学验证期间对局部星系群银河系 Antlia 的 BVI 成像的一些初始结果。
