STROBE-X:从微秒到年的动力学时间尺度上的X射线计时与能谱学

摘要

我们提出宽波段能量X射线光谱计时观测台(STROBE-X),这是一项由NASA选中开展研究的探测级任务概念。它将巨大的集光面积、高吞吐量、宽能量覆盖以及优异的能谱与时间分辨率集于单一设施之中。STROBE-X为X射线能谱计时带来了灵敏度的巨大提升,首次将这些技术拓展至河外目标。它同时也是一架能够进行快速响应瞬变事件的敏捷任务,使其成为时域、多波段与多信使天文学时代不可或缺的X射线伙伴设施。该任务针对宇宙中极端条件的探测而优化,其关键科学目标包括:(1) 稳健测量质量与自旋,并绘制从致密星到中等质量天体再到活动星系核的黑洞质量谱上的内吸积流图谱。(2) 利用近二十余颗旋转驱动脉冲星与吸积中子星的整体,绘制中子星完整的质量-半径关系,从而比NICER所探测的范围更广地测量超密物质的物态方程。(3) 在后Swift时代,通过与引力波干涉仪、中微子观测站以及其他电磁波段的高节奏时域巡天交叉关联,为动态天空中多波段与多信使瞬变源甄别并研究其X射线对应体。(4) 以大占空比与高时间分辨率持续巡天动态X射线天空,以刻画X射线源在空前广泛的时间尺度上的行为。STROBE-X的强劲能力亦将支撑广泛的附加科学。
