研究表明，弦概念自然地源于对引力的考虑。本文描述了基于狭义协变性和引力势存在假设的线性化广义相对论的推导。引力场具有由二阶协变导数定义的规范不变性，该导数定义了一个相关的微分几何。平行性和平行移动的概念导致了类似弦的构造。
