由恒星掩星得出的 (486958) Arrokoth 的大小与形状约束

我们呈现了四次由 (486958) Arrokoth(新视野号扩展任务的飞掠目标)引起的恒星掩星结果。四次努力中的三次对天体给出了正面探测,且全部约束了环与其他碎屑的存在,未发现任何此类物质。2017年6月3日部署了25个移动观测站并得到固定望远镜增补,此次努力未获正面探测。2017年7月10日事件由SOFIA观测,得到一条极短弦。2017年7月17日部署的24个观测站给出了五条弦,清晰显示出与接触双星一致的复杂形状,整体轮廓粗略尺寸为20×30 km。由这些数据推导出10%的可见反照率。2018年8月4日第四次事件部署了22套系统,得到两条弦。掩星数据与飞掠结果的结合显著精化了自转周期,现估计为15.9380 ±\pm 0.0005 小时。掩星数据还提供了关于该天体位置的高精度天体测量约束,对支持新视野号飞掠导航至关重要。本工作展示了一种获取遥远柯伊伯带天体详细大小与形状信息并探测环与尘埃的有效方法,同时也是尤其对小型遥远天体有用的、可辅助航天器导航的位置数据重要来源。
